'Little Giants' stars visit A.G. screening 

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (SLOIFF) continues its “SLO County on the Silver Screen” series on Saturday, Dec. 7 with a special screening of the 1994 family favorite Little Giants. The series presents movies shot in SLO County—generally shown in the same town as they were filmed. Little Giants, starring Rick Moranis and Ed O’Neill as brothers and coaches of two rival Pee Wee Football teams, was filmed in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande. The screening will take place at noon at Arroyo Grande’s Fair Oaks Theatre, located at 1007 Grand Ave.

What’s more, three of the film’s now-grown-up stars will be there, too: Shawna Waldron (Becky “Icebox” O’Shea), Todd Bosley (Jake Berman), and Marcus Toji (Marcus “The Toe”) will be in attendance. Assistant Producer/Production Manager D. Scott Easton will be there as well to share his stories about the making of the film.

Arroyo Grande stands in for Urbania, Ohio in Little Giants, but locals will recognize familiar locations, including Grand Avenue, where Danny (Moranis) and Kevin (O’Neill) race one another in a Corvette and a go-cart, respectively.

Advance tickets are $10 (general) and $8 (for students and SLOIFF film society members.) Tickets will also be available at the door starting at 11 a.m., and will be sold for just $5 to anyone wearing a football jersey.

The screening is the eighth in the series, which kicked off in August with Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments. Upcoming films in the series include the dark comedy 10 Years Later on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Fair Oaks, with writer-director-actor Aaron Metchik in attendance.
