Attention cool cats of SLO County: Weve listened to all those who entered this years Best of SLO County Readers Poll, and no ones talkin jive. What New Times readers say is what they get. Period.
So, to honor this years winning cool cats in the coolest way possible, we jumped in our duel-overhead-cam time machine and dropped in on 1950s America. We kidnapped the hottest hipsters, images, and icons of the era, then brought them to 21st century SLO County.
They were a little shook up at first, but they got into the party spirit pretty fast. Because theyre, you know, cool.
Here at New Times, a single vote really did make a difference. More than 1,100 votes flooded our mailbox, were slid under our door, and thrust at our staff members as they walked down the street.
But this beautiful yet miraculous feat could not have happened without the help of some seriously amazingand ultra-coolpeople.
First, we should recognize those who volunteered to help make this issue rock. We worked with some great local folks.
Thank you so much to our models Michael Davidson & Jill Sanders, Melissa Moses & Jimmy Sunderland, Justin Sanchez, Stacey Deaton, Troy Abram, Chloe Rucker, Courtney Rucker, Summer Deaton, Heather Deaton, Dustin Weir, Lauren Guspari, Sarah Worrell, and Jacci Abram.
And all the cool clothes? Thanks aplenty to Costume Capers of San Luis Obispo for yet again being our source of props and paraphernalia. Without Costume Capers, our hip photos would be decidedly square.
Thanks also to the best businesses who let us take over with lights and cameras flashing: The Del Monte Café, Palm Theatre, and The Cliffs at Shell Beach.
The 1950s would be nowheresville without the chrome, metal-flake, and Sputnik-high tale fins of the era. Thanks to Aaron M. Reed and Earnie Wheeler for allowing us to photograph their best examples of Detroits finest.
And a special thanks to all our readers and advertisers, the best bunch of people in this eraor any other.
