A group of Cal Poly graduates is committed to saving the world, one beerbong at a time.
College drinking buddies turned professional business partners Casey Curtis and Quinn Lewis recently started Beerbongs for World Peace, a company that sells beerbongs to help feed starving children.
Each beerbong sells for $10, and all the profits are donated to the World Food Program, an organization that feeds children in need throughout the world. One beerbong sale generates enough money to provide four hungry children with a wholesome meal.
“We live and beerbong by the motto: We’re thirsty, they’re hungry,” Curtis said.
It appears that many people share the duo’s passion of boozing for charity, as the company recently recorded its 1,000th beerbong sale. The Cal Poly alumns say they chose beerbongs—funnels that enable someone to drink a full beer in a few seconds—for their dramatic effects.
“Beerbongs are a lot like sex: Everybody remembers their first time—sloppy, fast and wet, but you can’t wait to do it again,” Curtis said. “That’s what attracted us to beerbongs in the first place; it’s a new experience every time.”
Each BBFWP beerbong is constructed by Curtis and Lewis and designed to be compact enough for a single person to easily operate, which enables drinkers to guzzle beer in funny poses.
After graduating from Cal Poly, the duo drove across the country in an effort to draw attention and spread the word about what they consider a serious issue. Along the way, the fun-loving Curtis and Lewis beerbonged in a variety of landmark locations and posted it all on Facebook. The response was overwhelming.
“People loved the idea,” Curtis said. “So we partnered up with friends and joined together to start this cause.”
They’re now looking for a motorhome and plan to take BBFWP to the road this summer.
In addition to raising awareness for a noble cause (while simultaneously raising levels of intoxication), Beerbongs for World Peace is also giving college students a purpose for partying.
“I feel a lot of the community looks down at the Cal Poly party scene. I wanted to shine a better light on the Cal Poly kids. I wanted to show there’s ways to party and give back to the world,” Curtis said. “Kids spend thousands of dollars a year on partying. Why not have some of that money go to a good cause?”
