Guilty Myers defendants sentenced
By MATT FOUNTAIN
The trial of Rhonda Wisto and Frank York is over.
On May 8, the last of five defendants who faced conspiracy and murder charges in the killing of 15-year-old Santa Maria teen Dystiny Myers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During the speedy hearing, a standing-room-only courthouse filled with green-ribbon-wearing supporters of the Myers family listened as the victim’s family and pastor addressed the defendants.
“The last 33 months have been the longest of my life,” Kathy Clark, Myer’s grandmother, said. “Today’s a new beginning for our family. It’s a new day for Dystiny—today, she’s free.”
“You said she was a nobody. Well, look around, lady, because you’re sitting there all alone,” Myers’ mother, Aileen, told Wisto. “I do not forgive you at all, and may you rot.”
Neither York nor Wisto looked at or addressed the family, though York’s attorney read aloud a letter his client had written accepting responsibility and apologizing to the family.
Following their clients being led away, both defense attorneys quickly exited the courthouse through another doorway.
