Surveillance cameras are coming to Arroyo GrandeBY ROBERT A. MCDONALDThe Arroyo Grande City Council approved spending $64,817 on a surveillance system that would monitor much of the historic village and some of the neighboring parks and open spaces. Council members approved the expenditure March 22. Police officials say the system is necessary because of “ongoing criminal conduct” in the village and in the adjoining areas. The system will consist of pods, mounted with four cameras each, that will beam live images back to police headquarters. The pods are designed to be mobile and can be moved to other areas when necessary. The city expenditure comes in addition to a U.S. Department of Justice grant that will cover $18,543 of the total bill. The city will buy the system from Security Lines US of Studio City, a company that specializes in police surveillance systems. |
