Panga Boat Bust 9/6

Weekly Poll
What will you be doing on Election Night?

Waiting anxiously for the results to come in.
Whatever I'd usually be doing on a Tuesday night.
Shaking my head in shame over the decay of our electoral process.
Getting my passport in order.

Cougars & Mustangs: Give Whovians a housecall

BY CHRIS WHITE-SANBORN

Ah, just four little weeks left of class. Isn’t it lovely? The holidays are nearly upon us, here to put an end to all of this nasty student suffering. Well, press the pause button on it for about a month. Well, alleviate it slightly. We can hope. Do you remember the last thing that made you smile really broadly and get into an uncontrollable giggle fit? Good. Hold onto that. My qualifications for writing this column every week don’t include having it all figured out, and I’m still clueless about plenty of things involving where my life is going and the proper way to survive a term. But I DO know that mental health is very important, and that students are some of the most stressed and depressed people in the nation.

I also know that Doctor Who is turning 50 this weekend and that I am very excited about it. I’m not the only one, either; our very own Cal Poly has an entire club dedicated to the popular science fiction series that meets Saturdays at 7 p.m., in Building 14, Room 251. If you enjoy the show or even if you want to learn more about it, this could be a place to de-stress between cartons of homework. Cal Poly Whovians have the blues, to be sure, but only on the sides of their police boxes. And you don’t just have to be a Cal Poly student to join in on the fun! Cuesta students and more are quite welcome to attend. As a member put it very nicely on my visit last Saturday, “Here’s the best part about new people attending: You say ‘Oh, I like Doctor Who,’ and I sit up excitedly and say ‘What else do you watch?’”

Nerds as a general rule have 500 miles worth of material to talk about right off the bat, and it’s a great feeling. The club has a very inviting, quirky atmosphere that really clicks with some people, and I hope that for those who decide to give it a visit, it will click with them as well! Now, about that 50th anniversary special—you know, the one starring both the most and second most recent doctors teaming up somehow? You too can experience it! This Saturday, Nov. 23, Whovians presents a viewing party held, appropriately, in the Baker Science Building (Building 180), Room 101. In addition to the episode, there’ll be food and a costume contest. Just remember, if applicable, to PRO-CRAS-TIN-ATE! responsibly.
