Weekly Poll
Justin Vineyards and Winery said they won’t plant a vineyard on the land where they clear cut acres of native trees. What should be done with the property?

Put it in conservation for perpetuity, and hope the moonscape can recover.
Build tiny homes. Homeless people deserve to be surrounded by beauty also!
Sell it to someone that dry farms, like everyone else surrounding the property.
Let them keep it and do whatever they damn well please. It’s their property!

Killing our children's dreams

San Luis Obispo

By Jay Mendelsohn

I agree with David Torik’s assessment of how our schools (and medical establishment) deal with children who don’t meet “so called” standards (“The dreams of our children,” March 14). Our society wants a quick fix to everything. Just send them to a psychiatrist who can suggest a drug to help them conform.

The drugs may help the school and parents deal with these special children, but they only suppress their possible true talents. And it all comes down to money, of course. More money for the school and medical profession. We all need to take the time to nurture our children’s special talents, rather than helping to destroy countless dreams.
