State agencies should share the burden of tough timesSanta MariaKen HanscheMany middle- and lower-income Californians are facing harsh financial problems. The cost of basic necessities is rising steadily. State taxes and fees are among the highest in the nation—and taxes are going up, again. Times are tough for a lot of California folks. So state agencies should share this burden. After all, the state’s money comes from the folks, leaving them less. State agencies should not be allowed to increase fees or charges until times get better. State personnel pay raises should be postponed. State paid travel should be severely curtailed. All state expenditures should be reviewed and reduced where possible. The CPUC should disapprove all requests by utilities for rate increases in excess of their actual purchase-cost of product. If you agree, pass this (or other words) on to all your California addressees and to those in California government. If enough of us, the little people, speak out, it might seep into some of the hard heads at the top. |
