This place is what it isSan Luis ObispoJim SchwartzIn the recent article “A mitzvah with movies,” (Jan. 3), Lauren Bandari made several provocative comments about our area, saying “Christmas feels louder [here].” Now, we’re a pretty tolerant place and welcome newcomers from all over. But did she not realize when she moved here that SLO is an old mission city, founded by a Franciscan priest and named after a Christian saint, Louis the Bishop of Tolouse? If you move next to an airport, you’re going to hear airplanes; if you move to San Luis Obispo, you’re probably going to hear church bells. Anyway, at least we know how she really feels. |
