It's about integrityLos Osos
More comment about Gibson’s Zippergate: I hope your guest Shredder got scolded about comparing this affair to JFK and Kennedy’s (“Adult content,” Nov. 22).
The Gibson affair “of the heart” with his tax-funded assistant for the past two to six years isn’t about the right or wrong of their relationship. It’s a lot more about our District 2 Supervisor straying from his pledge of meeting the County’s Code of Responsibility.
He should have gotten his affair in order at least two years ago when it was obvious to spouses and many in the county.
The method used by our county counsel to address affairs between staff and potential conflict-of-interest legalities is pitifully flawed. The costly David Edge/Gail Wilcox harassment debacle was farmed out to an outside investigative source. Bruce Gibson was supportive of removing David Edge and exonerating Gail Wilcox (who had the affair, with someone else). They would later rehire her as a sub, after the scandal died down.
When elected leaders defer from integrity, they must depend on their supporters and public to forgive them for straying.
Bruce Gibson has several other serious integrity issues for me, but for now, how about we ask that he man up and agree to cover the costs of the mess he brought onto the county taxpayers for the investigation of the affair and new liability about Cherie Aispiro’s employment back into the county at her current wage?
How Bruce Gibson and the county handle this will be the thread to follow. I’ve watched the county investigate itself a few times; the forgiveness chain is strong when you investigate yourself and yours. There have been other questionable affairs (Paavo Ogren/Maria Kelly) and incidents etc. that were reviewed and dismissed by county counsel. As serious as this Gibson affair is, they got no outside review. The Tribune has rarely investigated these stories, instead throwing bias.
So anyway, Mr. Gibson. Whatever this “affair of the heart” has come to cost the county, will you agree to keep the county safe and pay back the legal and investigative costs? Then, you’re at least living up to your election promises.
