The Art of New Times

Weekly Poll
Should deceased Santa Maria officer Alberto Covarrubias Jr. have received a police funeral?

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?
His final actions should forfeit that honor.
It's tragic, but the Santa Maria PD are partially responsible.

Give warmth

Arroyo Grande

Taylor CastaƱon

It’s that time of year when the temperatures drop and the nights become very chilly. For the past ten years I have held an annual drive to collect new and used blankets, sleeping bags, jackets, gloves, hats, and beanies for the less privileged in our community and delivered them to the San Luis Obispo EOC Homeless Shelter. With incredible aid from our community we have successfully warmed the hearts and souls of thousands of men, women, and children.

Graciously, the San Luis Garbage Company has once again donated the use of a dozen 96-gallon recycle containers for this drive. Simply bring donations to Old Mission School, Mission College Preparatory High School, Shell Beach Elementary School, or the Pacific Gas & Electric pay center in San Luis Obispo, until Nov. 24.

Ordinary families can make extraordinarily differences in our community and in our nation. I am requesting that our community join together to share our strong healthy spirit to help those who most need help. We all go through difficult times and it is with the help of those around us that we achieve successes. When America’s diverse families and children are healthy, our nation prospers.
