Elections are for you to decide

It offends me to the core each election cycle that a few powerful individuals decide who can run for the President of the U.S., according to the candidate’s willingness to maintain the status quo. That tradition continues on the Central Coast.

Recently Lois Capps endorsed Salud Carbajal to take her seat in Congress. That endorsement was done as a rite of passage without vetting any of the other candidates.

I urge voters not to stop there when deciding who is the most qualified. Invite the candidates to talk to your organization. Attend the functions where they are speaking. Ask them questions. Find out who is accepting large sums of money from people they will be beholden to.

We began that effort recently by attending a speech by Bill Ostrander. We found him to be a refreshingly strong voice ready to solve problems for our area and our country while pledging a campaign based on small contributions from the people he will represent. Carbajal refused to take that pledge.

Do not let others direct your vote. Find the candidate who represents your beliefs and needs. It is worth the time and effort.
