Let's turn this madness around

By Patrick Kerans - San Luis Obispo

Jim, thanks for this piece (“What will end the obsession?” June 5). I couldn’t agree more with the complete insanity we allow ourselves to live amidst.

Your conclusion: “You tell us what you would do to help make it so that no father ever has to bury his young son again?” reminds me of what went through my mind that first weekend as I learned from my daughter that Chris Martinez had been her classmate from third grade through high school.

After my heart sank like a rock, I eventually concluded we need to lock two representatives each from the NRA, the military industrial complex, and the Hollywood industrial complex in a room to go figure out how we’re going to solve this problem. And they can’t come out until the audience of parents assembled to hear their proposals agrees they’ve got something that will work for society.

If they died in that room, I guess I’d feel they at least died trying to do something worthy of being a true, good, and decent human being. A “reverse Hunger Games” if you will.

In all seriousness, I fully intend to participate in whatever causes and actions I can to turn this madness around. There is no better thing for a human to do in this upside-down world we live in.
