Home, sweet Los Osos
By Marcia Page - Los Osos
As a 25-year resident of Los Osos, I have serious concerns about the proposal to convert the former BofA building into a 24-hour drive-thru fast food restaurant. We moved here to raise our children exactly because Los Osos is an eclectic and unique small town, without a huge multinational corporate presence. Both of our now adult children have moved away and then moved back because they believe in the same values.
Fast food corporate restaurants do not fit the character of our town. They will provide unfair competition for our small, locally owned restaurants. This particular project proposes a drive thru that will cause significant parking, traffic, and trash issues.
Light pollution will result from the 16 proposed lighted signs. In addition, seriously, where will the water come from, and why can McDonald’s add extra bathrooms and kitchen fixtures with drains when so many families can’t even add one more drain?
Los Osos is a great place to live. Let’s nurture it through its inevitable growing pains and not lose sight of why we came here in the first place.
