One of San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx’s only competitors announced he is dropping out of the race.
In an email, John Conner, who owns Petit Soleil bed and breakfast in SLO, said he decided to drop out of the race for mayor.
“I have decided to end my run for Mayor of San Luis Obispo affective [sic] today,” Conner wrote in an email with the subject, “Naiveté.”
He added: “I did a lot of soul searching, talking to people and getting to understand what it takes to run for office and found that I am just not suited for the political machine. I have a great life and love San Luis Obispo I just need to find other ways to give back to my community. I will gladly leave the political arena to people who enjoy it.”
His announcement comes a few weeks after pulling paperwork to run for the office, which Marx has held for two terms. Donald Hedrick, who previously made an unsuccessful run for office, has also pulled papers to run.
